5 Hacks To Remember Everything You Read!

From professionals of all levels to students, we traverse through large chunks of data daily. Although the domain of data may vary; each of them is of specific use, if they manage to retain whatever they read. Imagine you are going on air for a company product launch in about 3 minutes and you have to present a speech. You’ve got an impressive speech written for you a week before. Let’s say you memorized the speech word by word. How likely is it that you present the speech exactly similar to the speech in the paper without looking? Although reading was pushed behind as a waste of time, people at present, recognize the value of books. Probably, the common people now understand why and how elite people are elite because of the amount of time successful people spend reading.

The Reading & Memory Theory

Common people tend to get inspired by their Idols and try to mimic their routine in order to be like them. But unlike us, successful people read to grasp information and use it to hone their decision-making skills. They aren’t simply reading letters or phrases, they are gathering data. Data so valuable and raw that we can immediately apply it in our daily life and feel the instant awe. For example, Bill Gates has a summer reading list -of books he has shared in his Instagram highlights. These habits inspire a broad spectrum of common people who follow Gates.

Moreover, successful people read not only to upgrade themselves but also to increase their memory capacity. Reading boosts memory. Imagine you attend a party and meet people, you ask their name not exactly to remember it but as a formal gesture. But successful people retain even the names of potential people the instant they know it. After a month you meet someone you got acquainted in that party and he swiftly greets you with your correct first name, won’t you feel ‘wow’? Like how many people do you know, whom you have met once that got your name correct at the first time itself?  I bet you’ll be impressed wondering how on earth he remembers your name rightly. Books are great Memory boosters. Which is the reason for this blog’s existence. We’ll teach you 5 Vital tips to boost your memory and also to retain information easily. Note that my Brain coach, Mr.Jim Kwik, has inspired me to share his insights. Here’s one of his famous quotes and my favorite.

Jim Kwik is a world-renowned Brain coach to billionaires, celebrities, executives, and highly influential people around the world.

There’s no such thing as a good or bad memory. There’s only a trained and untrained memory- Jim Kwik.

Here goes the Hacks to memorize anything you read:

  1. Skimming:  Skim the text before you start reading from beginning to end. This helps to brace your brain for the amount of information, type, and quality of data, it is about to take in.
  2. Engage multiple senses: Example hearing, read aloud the text you’d want to memorize. Indulge in an audiobook of the text, if any. Notably, reading a physical book helps better in memorizing than podcasts or audiobooks.
  3. Jot Down: Recall, thinking, attention to detail, are all skills your brain utilizes when learning any new skill or while memorizing something. Underline, scribble notes in your way, edit or cut short the text in ways you feel comfortable without actually hurting the meaning of the text.
  4. Summarize: When you are done reading or learning, take a paper and summarize the content you understood. Just make a list of the key points. This gives your memory an added boost and cue on the points to retain.
  5. Teach/ Explain: Grab your buddy, colleague or classmate and teach them what you learned. One of the best & effective methods of retaining a piece of information is when you teach it to someone else. Be it a speech for your company or school-level elocution, teaching your content to someone will bring closure. Teaching gives crystal clarity to your brain about the text it just memorized.

To Conclude

Further, as you improve, the additional knowledge builds your brain muscles, helping to keep your neural connections strong. This means the more times you practice these five simple steps, it becomes easier to memorize. Not only it becomes easier, the default way you learn something slowly shifts to this ultra learning way and then you don’t even have to try. You’ll automatically remember something you read in order to memorize. Now, that is intelligence. The most important thing to remember is that it’s possible to train your brain with a cohesive brain training program at any point in your life. Intelligence isn’t a fixed characteristic of anyone. Rather, it’s something that is enhanced. As you practice daily, your competency will grow, improving the skill at which you execute everyday actions. In fact, with improved quality.
