PARENTS SEEK ALTERNATIVES FOR CLASSROOM LEARNING

As schools start to reopen in September, some parents are still reluctant to risk sending their children to school amidst the unabated rise of COVID-19 infection, and most are prompted to search for alternative ways to send their children to school.

Although schools promise to provide the safest learning environment, many parents express
their reservation about on-site learning.

Online learning is a preferred alternative, as well as the blended learning approach, which combines online classes and classroom lectures. Another viable option includes live-streaming of on-campus classes or remote learning, which can either be synchronous or asynchronous. Live streaming of classes can enable both students in school and at home to follow lessons at the same time and even get the feel of a live and ongoing classroom session. At the same time, students have the option to record the livestream and then view it later.

However, continuous training and support on this new norm in learning is necessary in order to identify the most effective techniques in virtual learning.

School officials, teachers and parents will be encouraged to review the distance learning infrastructure on a regular basis in order to come up with proper assessment and push forward recommendations for further improvement of the platform.
